The Wayne Hotel and Paramour welcomed Ithan Elementary School third graders on Friday, May 11^th to give them a behind-the-scenes look into a real Wayne business.  The first thing on the agenda for the third graders was cookie making with Pastry Chef Amelia Dietrich in Paramour’s dining room. The students donned their chef hats and got to work decorating dinosaurs, stars and flowers. While the cookies set, the group moved upstairs to see Wayne Hotel’s Premiere Suite and learn a little more about the history of the hotel from General Manager, David Brennan. Finally the third graders took a seat in Wayne Hotel’s Lobby Lounge to interview Mr. Brennan about his experience in the hospitality industry and managing a business in Wayne. They learned about the important role that Wayne Hotel plays in the community, and the things that are needed to make a business successful. Finally, they relaxed on the Veranda to munch on their culinary treats and talk about their visit to the Wayne Hotel and Paramour.

The Run for the Roses may have been the focus of this past weekend, but the gathering on the breezy Veranda of the Main Line’s newest al fresco dining scene at Paramour was not to be missed.

While jockeys were donning their silks in Louisville, Main Liners were donning their hats to celebrate in style on Paramour’s Veranda. Guests were welcomed to the First Annual Kentucky Derby Party with complimentary Woodford Reserve mint juleps and an abundance of Derby inspired Hors d’oeuvres. The afternoon’s main event was the Hat Judging Contest, where chic and poised ladies eagerly showed off their Derby finest and flaunted their over-the-top headwear, vying for one of three top spots and excellent prizes. Along with the ladies, a handful of stylish Main Line men looked dapper in their Derby hats. The top man and woman each received stylish gift baskets designed by Paramour with the Derby in mind. Second place winners received stunning accessories courtesy of The Bark Avenue Boutique, and Third place took home gift cards to dine at Paramour.

Stan Hochman, Sports columnist for the Philadelphia Daily News and a Kentucky Derby aficionado, provided a challenging Derby Questionnaire which tested guest’s knowledge of the most prestigious event in horse racing. Hochman was also on hand during the race to enlighten guests on some behind-the-scenes knowledge that he has gained from covering the Derby and from his ownership in past Derby contenders.

Excitement soared as race time grew near, and guests quickly chose their seats in Paramour’s Bistro Bar, Lobby Lounge and stunning Veranda to watch the most exciting 2 minutes in sports.

Despite the cold and rainy morning, our dedicated runners of The Radnor Hotel Team braved the elements and all successfully completed their race at Sunday’s Valley Forge Revolutionary Run. Karen Rogers and Adam Joseph of 6ABC stopped by the Wayne Hotel Tuesday morning to film their Saturday Night segment of FYI Philly. The duo set up in the newly renovated lobby lounge while tasting some of Paramour’s favorite dishes and discussing Wayne Hotel’s Perfect Valentine’s Package. Wayne Hotel General Manager David Brennan greeted Marine Sergeant Whalen and Lance Corporal Mosby yesterday during their Toys for Tots pick-up. Wayne Hotel was a donation site for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program for 2011, collecting over 200 new, unwrapped toys for the campaign. Due to an overwhelming number of requests, Toys for Tots has extended their collection deadline until Tuesday, December 20th. So if you’re heading out to Paramour this weekend, why not bring a toy donation with you!

This past weekend the Wayne Hotel and Paramour restaurant were pleased to welcome 8-time Grammy winner, singer, virtuoso guitarist and composer José Feliciano (pictured on the right with Julio Ugarte, Paramour). Mr. Feliciano relaxed in the hotel’s newly renovated suite accommodations and enjoyed lunch in the hotel’s new restaurant, Paramour, while in the area to perform at a holiday party. Known for his great sense of humor, Mr. Feliciano was in full voice singing a Christmas classic, Dominick The Christmas Donkey.  Of course, the hotel staff is hoping for a rendition of his acclaimed holiday hit, Feliz Navidad, next time.

Friends and neighbors of all ages turned out Friday night to kick-off Wayne Hotel’s Old Fashioned Christmas in the heart of Wayne. The mild weather drew record crowds to the holiday tradition, and they participated in the array of festive activities leading up to the 19th annual lighting of the Wayne Christmas tree.

The affair officially kicked off at 5:30, with carolers strolling down North Wayne Avenue stopping by and spreading holiday cheer.  Horse-drawn carriages awaited on South Wayne Avenue to give families a tour of the neighborhood that participated in the 2011 house- decorating competition. Afterwards, kids joined together at the Radnor Fire House to decorate ornaments and get their faces painted. The ever-present Toy Solider greeted the children throughout the town. As seven o’clock approached, families began to move toward the Wayne Train Station, where the Valley Forge Military Academy Chorale sang Christmas carols in front of the Christmas tree. Radnor High School Cheerleaders donned reindeer antlers and performed seasonal cheers for the anxious crowd before the lighting of the tree. As the big moment approached, Santa appeared in a surprise drive-by on a Radnor Fire truck reminding the kids to visit him the following day at the Wayne Hotel. This year’s countdown was led by Vernon Odom of Channel 6 Action News along with David Brennan, General Manager of Wayne Hotel and Diane Jiorle, President of Wayne Business Association …5-4-3-2-1 and the tree illuminated the town of Wayne.

Saturday morning, families lined up on along Lancaster Avenue for the start of the annual Santa Parade. The parade featured Radnor High School’s Marching Band & Cheerleaders, Valley Forge Military Academy Field Music Group and Santa travelling in style high atop a gleaming fire truck. Also riding on the truck with Santa was Marine Staff Sergeant R. J. Wilson, his wife and two daughters. The parade ended at the Wayne Hotel, where Santa visited with families on the Veranda. Paramour restaurant provided delicious complimentary house-made holiday cookies and hot chocolate for everyone to enjoy.

The seductive bistro bar will offer creative, handcrafted cocktails and the area’s top beverage selection with a focus on wines and craft beers from the United States. On Friday, The Toy Soldier came out to spread some cheer.  He stopped at the Radnor Firehouse where kids were busy decorating ornaments and getting their faces painted.  Then, he made is way up North Wayne Avenue towards the Christmas tree, which has been strung with brand new lights.  The Valley Forge Military Academy choir led the carol singing and Cathy Gondolfo was again on hand to for the countdown to the tree-lighting.  With unprecedented crowds in town, there was a thunderous roar of 5-4-3-2-1 and the brilliant lights lit up the night.  The tree has never looked so magnificent.  After the tree lighting, lots of people stayed in town for the free holiday movies at the Anthony Wayne.

On Saturday, a parade featuring Radnor High School’s band and Valley Forge Military Academy’s band headed toward the Wayne Hotel, leading the fire truck with Santa on Board down Lancaster Avenue.  Santa made his way to the front porch of the Wayne Hotel where he met all the boys and girls.  Joodles was busy making balloon animals and with candy canes, hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies on hand, everyone enjoyed the morning.  After visiting Santa, the Anthony Wayne Theater was once again screening a free holiday matinee.
