The Wayne Hotel and Paramour welcomed Ithan Elementary School third graders on Friday, May 11^th to give them a behind-the-scenes look into a real Wayne business.  The first thing on the agenda for the third graders was cookie making with Pastry Chef Amelia Dietrich in Paramour’s dining room. The students donned their chef hats and got to work decorating dinosaurs, stars and flowers. While the cookies set, the group moved upstairs to see Wayne Hotel’s Premiere Suite and learn a little more about the history of the hotel from General Manager, David Brennan. Finally the third graders took a seat in Wayne Hotel’s Lobby Lounge to interview Mr. Brennan about his experience in the hospitality industry and managing a business in Wayne. They learned about the important role that Wayne Hotel plays in the community, and the things that are needed to make a business successful. Finally, they relaxed on the Veranda to munch on their culinary treats and talk about their visit to the Wayne Hotel and Paramour.

The Run for the Roses may have been the focus of this past weekend, but the gathering on the breezy Veranda of the Main Line’s newest al fresco dining scene at Paramour was not to be missed.

While jockeys were donning their silks in Louisville, Main Liners were donning their hats to celebrate in style on Paramour’s Veranda. Guests were welcomed to the First Annual Kentucky Derby Party with complimentary Woodford Reserve mint juleps and an abundance of Derby inspired Hors d’oeuvres. The afternoon’s main event was the Hat Judging Contest, where chic and poised ladies eagerly showed off their Derby finest and flaunted their over-the-top headwear, vying for one of three top spots and excellent prizes. Along with the ladies, a handful of stylish Main Line men looked dapper in their Derby hats. The top man and woman each received stylish gift baskets designed by Paramour with the Derby in mind. Second place winners received stunning accessories courtesy of The Bark Avenue Boutique, and Third place took home gift cards to dine at Paramour.

Stan Hochman, Sports columnist for the Philadelphia Daily News and a Kentucky Derby aficionado, provided a challenging Derby Questionnaire which tested guest’s knowledge of the most prestigious event in horse racing. Hochman was also on hand during the race to enlighten guests on some behind-the-scenes knowledge that he has gained from covering the Derby and from his ownership in past Derby contenders.

Excitement soared as race time grew near, and guests quickly chose their seats in Paramour’s Bistro Bar, Lobby Lounge and stunning Veranda to watch the most exciting 2 minutes in sports.

Last weekend, the 4th Ranked Notre Dame Men’s Lacrosse Team stayed at The Radnor Hotel in preparation for the awaited clash with Villanova for the top of the Big East. The Wildcats and the Fighting Irish did not disappoint their fans . The exciting hard fought battle ultimately ended with the Irish on top 10-7 and atop the Big East at 5-0. Villanova looks forward to their return to Wildcat Stadium for the upcoming Big East Tournament May 5th weekend . Don’t miss the fastest game on two feet with two fine combatants.

Despite the cold and rainy morning, our dedicated runners of The Radnor Hotel Team braved the elements and all successfully completed their race at Sunday’s Valley Forge Revolutionary Run. On Sunday night, April 1^st 2012 at The Radnor Hotel, ten anxious girls gathered with hopes of becoming the 2012 Philadelphia Rose of Tralee. After showcasing their personalities in individual interviews with a panel of three judges, followed by a live interview in The Radnor’s Grand Terrace Ballroom in front of over 150 supporters, The Rose was crowned. The room was silent with anticipation as Master of Ceremonies Jim Donovan of CBS announced that Elizabeth Spellman of Havertown will be going on to represent Philadelphia in the Regional Rounds at the end of May in Ireland. When Elizabeth was crowned, the room erupted with applause as she was embraced by her fellow contestants and scores of well-wishers

David Brennan, native of Ireland and General Manager of the Wayne Hotel, was one of the three judges at the Sunday evening event. Brennan was born and raised in Limerick, Ireland and regards the Rose of Tralee as one of the finest events of its kind on the International Stage. The exceptionally high caliber of this year’s participants presented a challenge to Brennan and his fellow judges, but in the end they felt confident in their decision. “The evening was a magnificent celebration of Philadelphia’s Irish heritage and it was an honor to participate on the judging panel.  Selecting the 2012 Philadelphia Rose of Tralee was no easy task, but the judges were unanimous in choosing Elizabeth Spellman.  She truly embodies the spirit of this honor and we feel she would be an excellent ambassador for Philadelphia on the International stage in Tralee in August” says Brennan.

Spellman, 27, was born and raised in Havertown and studied social work at The Catholic University of America. After graduation, she spent two years living in Honduras working at an orphanage for boys. While there, she taught English and became the home’s social worker; setting up trips for the boys to see their families, and providing local families in need with resources. She currently works as a social worker at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. In addition to representing Philadelphia at the festival in Ireland, Elizabeth can look forward to a busy year of appearances and events in and around the greater Philadelphia area as The 2012 Philadelphia Rose of Tralee.
