Wayne Hotel’s Old Fashioned Christmas 2009 recap

It’s beginning to feel and look a lot like Christmas!

Friends and neighbors turned out in large numbers for the Wayne Hotel’s 2009 Christmas Celebration.  It was indeed a magical weekend.

On Friday night, families bundled up and enjoyed horse-drawn carriage rides.  Later all the kids gathered at the fire house to get their faces painted and to decorate their very own ornament.  Throughout Wayne, Christmas carolers set the tone for the evening.  As the town clock ticked on towards 7pm, everyone started to make their way to the Wayne train station for the annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.  This year’s countdown was led by Cathy Gandolfo of Channel 6 news. 5…4…3…2…1 and the evening was illuminated by the hundreds of lights on the tree.  Hundreds of faces glowed with wonderment.  Santa even did a surprise drive-by on a fire truck to let the kids know he was in Wayne and was looking forward to seeing them all on Saturday at the Wayne Hotel.

On Saturday morning, families lined the parade route as Santa made his way through town on the fire truck.  He was very excited to meet all the boys and girls that had gathered on the porch of the Wayne Hotel. Joodles the Clown made balloon animals and everyone enjoyed the hot chocolate and freshly baked cookies, compliments of the Wayne Hotel. This year, everyone was invited to bring a toy to donate to Toys for Tots and two Marines were on hand to receive the donations.  When Santa was leaving, as if by magic, it started to snow.

“He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”
